I'LL BE SMILING Well the heartaches had me askin if my lady-luck had flown till I saw you smile and I fell, in style, in a way that I've never known and after all the lessons Lord I know when I fell for you that if I ever lose this love I'll learn to lose. Cos I'll wake smiling in the morning (I'll be smiling) I'll sleep smiling with your kiss goodnight (Kiss goodnight) Always smiling with that thought that's burning of the moment when I have you by my side. If in the end, if I didn't lose much more than a good night's sleep with all the girls that I ever knew and were always hard to keep even times I've known they've left me sittin sad and blue well If I ever lose this love I'll learn to lose. Cos I'll wake smiling in the morning (I'll be smiling) I'll sleep smiling with your kiss goodnight (Kiss goodnight) Always smiling with that thought that's burning of the moment when I have you by my side Well it ain't no joke when you stand half broke and you're not what your woman wants For I'm not much more than a pocket of smoke and a hat full of honky tonk so I guess it's time to change my ways, in ways that I never knew cos if I ever lose this love I'll learn to lose. Cos I'll wake smiling in the morning (I'll be smiling) I'll sleep smiling with your kiss goodnight (Kiss goodnight) Always smiling with that thought that's burning of the moment when I have you by my side. © Gina Paola Ritch 2013

ALL THE SONG INSIDE OF YOU I wake up to the morning rain that gently blows the curtains in and every time the day begins with you all I want to do is sing with all the song inside of you. I only wanted to believe when you were every word I breathed and everything I thought that I could see was true that for a moment too that I could ever be all the song inside of you would you use your love to deceive me would you trust it enough to believe me that all I want is you. The darkness of a note that flows through everything you don't let go and all you don't pretend to show, I knew was yours to hold on to and mine to love with all the song inside of you. would you use your love to deceive me would you trust it enough to believe me that all I want is you. I wake up to the morning rain that gently blows the curtains in and every time the day begins with you all I want to do is sing with all the song inside of you. Would you care if you knew you'd hurt me could I count on you to be there with me when all I want is you and all the song inside of you. © Gina Paola Ritch 2016

HEARTACHE & HANG-ROPE There's nothin in this room sharp enough to kill me other than the cigarette smoke But I have time enough and I tobacco a-plenty heartache and hang-rope. There was a time I turned to you, but you turned on me when I needed you most and the only thing you left me there to hold on to was heartache and hang-rope. I gave you everything I had and asked for nothin' except the trust you broke and even then I didn't see what was comin' with the heartache and hang-rope There's nothin' in this room sharp enough to kill me other than the cigarette smoke But I have time enough and tobacco a-plenty heartache and hang-rope. Well I've got nothin' else than the heartache and hang-rope and the hole you left me in but heartache and hang-rope is all that I'll be needin' babe to haul me out of it again. © Gina Paola Ritch 2016

Free as the wind down the road I’ve blown dragging the chains of a freedom known by someone always on the run I’ll just keep going for there's not a place I don't see you and all those days we knew a long time gone. This road I’m on is a one way track and I don’t care what tomorrow holds I’ll take each day as each day comes and won’t look back but when I do, it's back to you and all those days we knew a long time gone. Days we knew a long time gone... so long Days we knew a long time gone... so long For there isn’t a day when a scent in the air the sun on my skin the autumn chill or the cold of winter in my bones no, there isn’t a thing that doesn’t take me back to you and all those days we knew a long time gone. And there isn’t a time when the sigh of spring the lazy haze of a summer’s day the whistle of the wind and a song no, there isn’t a thing that doesn’t take me back to you and all those days we knew a long time gone. I’ll sail these seas and I’ll cross these lands to new horizons moving on to whatever lies beyond down a road so long, until the day I say so long to you and to all those days we knew a long time gone. © Gina Paola Ritch 2013

NASHVILLE BAIL BOND BLUES (Song for Ol' Ronnie) Hey cowboy can you spare me a paper for these tossed ends I picked from the road, and maybe just a flick of your lighter in the time it takes to roll me a smoke. Can you hear the sirens blow well I pray I'm never goin there again cos I've been walkin these streets alone since they set me up and took me in. The young boy he robbed the dope house, see, and they got him good like they'll get you for sure. Stuck 'im in the belly and they shot him in the back with a black powder bullet from a forty four. He was lyin there a moanin an a groanin so I called for help to the folks around and I was tryin to do my best for the boy as he lay there dyin on the ground. The police come and they hauled me in cos they'd no one else there to stick it on. and they bailed me outa the Tennessee Pen but it broke me just to cover the bond. I come home from work one evening to find they'd cleared me outa house and home turning everything upside down and even the plate my kid was eatin from. In Nashville city there's a heap o hard luck If you head downtown to the tin-pan trap, there's a cowboy singin for a million bucks the story of his achey heart. But if you can spare me a paper and a flick o the lighter if yu'd be so kind in the time it takes to roll me a smoke I'd be glad to tell you mine. © 2014 Gina Paola Ritch.

LONESOME ROAD BLUES By the hand of the devil I've rambled and roamed but the hand of the angel guides me home. Guides me home where I belong, for the hand of the angel can do no wrong. It's a lonesome road that I've been on, manys a day has been and gone, it takes me to the great unknown, turn around and it takes me home. By the hand of the devil I've rambled and roamed but the hand of the angel guides me home. Guides me home where I belong, for the hand of the angel can do no wrong. It's a lonesome road through town to town and I still don't know which way I'm bound, whichever way it's bound to end, I'm bound to lose Lord or I'm bound to win. © Gina Paola Ritch 1987

A WEEK IN A REDLIGHT BED Spent a week in a redlight bed trying to find a place to find my head I found God but left him to his business yes I did. Spent a week in a redlight bed forgetting things I wished I'd said when its far too late and the talking's pointless anyway. Wait for me, like I've waited my whole life to find a love that I can see that won't just fall like a rose in the wind. Spent a week without a care just falling in love with her and she would have loved me too she said but couldn't remember the way Spent a week and everything I had but being left for broke is not so bad when you've been left before with a whole lot less than a redlight bed. Wait for me, like I've waited my whole life to find a love that I can see won't just fall like a rose in the wind, Dance for me, dance like the moonlight on the water tonight like the love that I can see, is a love that's going to make it alright. Spent a week in a redlight bed lookin for a place to find my head I found God but left him to his business yes I did.. © Gina Paola Ritch 2015

LORDY LORD BLUES. Standing with a hat at my feet singing for enough to eat Lordy Lord, you know I couldn't ask for more. Sittin with a clock in my hands and a head that won't unwind Lordy Lord, I just can't believe anymore. and it's enough to drive you crazy anyway that I think about it now oh Lordy Lord. Most times you know it seems that I've been livin the ghost of a dream Lordy, lord I just don't know who I saw The clouds I always rode for the sunny side that showed Lordy Lord I Just can't believe anymore. and it's enough to drive you crazy anyway that I think about it now oh Lordy Lord. I get up and I get low I'm the queen of the medicine show, Lordy Lord, we're all cookin something for sure. Lordy Lord, I just can't believe anymore. Met a girl who heard the angels sing all she saw was psychiatric wings Oh Lordy Lord, i can't believe anymore. and it's enough to drive you crazy anyway that I think about it now oh Lordy Lord. I see demons she seeks God I'm at evens she's at odds Lordy Lord I just can't believe anymore I spilt coffee all over the stove tryin to forget the one I love Lordy Lord I just can't believe anymore. © Gina Paola Ritch 2016

THE BALLAD OF THIRTY ONE Stagger John was only thirty one when he passed away on the old chaise longue drank so much that his legs had gone he lay six months on the old chaise longue he shook so bad that he couldn't speak and they fed him lamb rib twice a week old dogs chewed the knuckle bones from his hands that hung from the old chaise longue dying for a bottle to burn his tongue and that golden moment on the old chaise longue wiped his mouth on the back of his cuff lips so dry that the skin peeled off lips that whispered the saddest song with his body twisting on the old chaise longue reaching out with a desperate moan I stood and stared at the old chaise longue I gave him whiskey, right or wrong then walked away from the old chaise longue for I saw myself with my luck real done wasting away on the old chaise longue but I had luck, and John had none that day he died on the old chaise longue.. © Gina Paola Ritch 2016

YOU KEEP ME WRITING LOVE SONGS I hold on to you and your kiss long after you've gone because that is all that there is its all I can do and there's nothing else it's all I can wish And there is just nothing else to keep me writing love songs. I stood for a while for a while with you in the smoke where the flames licked red as I smiled at the burning boats and I smiled at the bridges ahead I smiled at the bridges ahead to keep me writing love songs. I still look for you step out of bed and feel the empty space where you lay where I turn to the side that you left and I bathe and bathe in the warmth of your place bathe in the warmth of your place that keeps me writing love songs. I wake at nights alone to feel you there and touch to my skin of the soft cascade of your hair in the heat where we cling together as one where we clung together as one that keeps me writing love songs. I hold on to you and your kiss long after you've gone because that is all that there is and it's all I can do and all I could wish it's all I have to hold on to to keep me writing love songs. © Gina Paola Ritch 2016

SONG FOR LISE Who won the heart who won the heart, tell me who won the heart of the sea? The one with the spirit of the changing winds, she won the heart of the sea. And who won the heart who won the heart tell me who won the heart of the wind? The one who faced the tempest with a calm in her eye, she won the heart of the wind. What will she share with the sea? A highway of diamonds scattered by the moon, and what will she share with the wind? The freedom of the breeze blowing soft upon the flame. who won the heart who won the heart, tell me who won the heart of the sun? The one whose smile was a rainbow in the storm, she won the heart of the sun. and who won the heart who won the heart tell me who won the heart of the night? The one who laid bare all her soul to the dream, she won the heart of the night. and what will she share with the sun? The lustre of her eye that shines like coffee beans, and what will she share with the night? The slow sweet kiss of surrender to the light. And when will we know the one who won the heart? When the dawn paints her smile with a palette of stars, then you’ll know, yes you’ll know, you will know, yes, you’ll know the one who won the heart. © Gina Paola Ritch 2004

HEART ON MY SLEEVE I wore my heart on my sleeve carried yours as the greatest part of me Sha la la la la, Sha la la I wore my heart on my sleeve so you might know everything you meant to me Sha la la la la, Sha la la How I wish there was a way that I could say I misunderstood You don't know how hard I've tried you don't know how long I've looked I wore my heart on my sleeve It was yours to treat as you pleased Sha la la la la, Sha la la I wore my heart on my sleeve Never thought you'd leave me down on my knees Sha la la la la I wore my heart on my sleeve All I asked for was honesty Sha la la la la, Sha la la How I wish there was a way that I could say I misunderstood You don't know how hard I've tried you don't know how long I've looked I wore my heart on my knees where you left me there with the dream When you almost broke the dreamer in me Sha la la la la, Sha la la © Gina Paola Ritch 2019

TO SING A FREE SONG FOREVER NEW (For Victor Jara) In that little part of the city in El Estadio de Chile with the five thousand waiting to die your song won't end in the silence and cries. The rest of the world turns a blind eye to that room and the lamp where it shines in the faces of those who shall never return. Arms to supply is its only concern. From that little part of the city is an echo of what you have written with the five thousand souls disappeared in your last days of the hope from the fear. They smashed your hands and mocked you to play then bloodied and beaten you stood like they said with the guitar in your broken hands, and there for the people, for the people you sang and they shot you down but your song was a free song. They can silence someone with their bullets and their guns but they can't silence that silence for long until it bursts and opens its wings to fly and fly for your song is a free song to fly and fly for your song is a free song to fly and fly forever new. © Gina Paola Ritch 2017

THINKING OF YOU I’ve been thinking of you every waking hour, and there’s nothing I can do to stop myself from going over, over and over again, one thousand different things I’ve thought about you. I’ve been thinking of you and chances I let slip away, in moments that you knew when I couldn’t find the words to say the things I’ve told myself A hundred times and many more today, about you. I’ve been thinking of you after all the years that passed I held it as they flew like a stolen photograph, or something that was never mine but hidden with the secrets in my heart about you. I’ve been thinking of you far away somewhere, wishing that you knew But it’s not something I can share for I don’t see that you would want to hear how much I really care about you. I’ve been thinking of you In all the sleepless nights I dwell, just searching for a clue or any little thing to tell if you ever thought of me, as well, just once in the way that I’ve thought about you. SHINE YOUR LIGHT ON ME Your eyes I know your eyes tonight, I can see them in the darkness shine Burning through the heart of night Like a diamond in the candle soft light of a candle soft light of a candle and who could ever hold a candle to you? Your smile I know your smile tonight I can touch it as my fingers slip, reaching out to you tonight like moonlight on the water dancing like the shadows softer than the shadows and who could ever cast a shadow on you? Tonight, you shine a light that I can see let it shine down on me, you shine a light that I can see. Your eyes I know your eyes tonight, I can see them in the darkness shine Burning through the heart of night Like a diamond in the candle soft light of a candle soft light of a candle and who could ever hold a candle to you? (mid 8) Tonight, you shine a light that I can see let it shine down on me, you shine a light that I can see. your love I know your love tonight burning through this heart of mine burning in my heart a while like lovers light a candle a moment like the candle shines a moment like the candle but who could ever shine that moment like you? Tonight, you shine a light that I can see let it shine down on me, you shine a light that I can see. Tonight, you shine a light that I can see let it shine down on me, you shine a light that I can see. © 2013 Gina Paola Ritch
